FAQ

Common Questions

Most concrete cleans up dramatically better than people expect. Years of buildup, algae, and staining come off and the difference is striking. That said, deeply set stains, spalling, or long-term oxidation are sometimes beyond what cleaning can fully address.
Cracks, spalling, pitting, and structural damage are beyond what any cleaning can address. That's a repair job. Deeply penetrated oil or rust stains may lighten but not fully disappear.
Sealing locks in the clean and protects the surface from cracking and spalling. It stays cleaner longer and is easier to maintain. We use Ghostshield Siloxa-Tek 8500 — a professional-grade penetrating sealer approved by the Department of Transportation for use on highways and bridges. It soaks into the concrete rather than sitting on top, so there's no film, no sheen, and no change to the surface appearance. What you get is concrete that actively repels water, resists deicing salt, and fights off mold and mildew — protecting against the cracking and spalling that freeze-thaw cycles and heavy weather cause. It's not required, but if you want the clean to last and the surface to hold up, it's worth it.
Most sealers last 2–5 years depending on the product, surface type, and how much traffic and weather exposure the area gets. Driveways typically need resealing sooner than patios or walkways. When it starts absorbing water instead of beading it, it's time to reseal.
Once a year is a good rule of thumb for most driveways, though it depends on your trees, weather exposure, and how much use the surface gets. Shaded driveways with a lot of leaf debris or moisture tend to build up algae faster and may benefit from cleaning every 6–12 months.
